From the reviews
I got my first Fender Stratocaster from Big Dudes back in the 1970's. They had a place on Rangeline in Joplin, Missouri. It was run by a guy named Dick Collins who played in the band Roadhog! He was fantastic.
My five year old had shown great interest in guitar and piano for over a year so I took him here to purchase his first legit guitar. The guys were very helpful and I felt like my son and I found "our" music store. When it comes to music in KC...
I hadn’t been to Big Dude’s Music City in Westport since I was a kid, but I recently had an issue with my Blackstar HT-40 amplifier and ended up needing their expertise. After replacing the preamp tubes, I was still having the same problem—master volume all the way up, but no sound through the speakers.
Hands down the best music store in the KC area!! Extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff; they’re genuinely cool people. Great selection, great store setup, and all around great vibe. I’ve been a customer at Big Pube’s Music City for 15 years and many more to come!
Lessons at Big Dude's Music City
Reviews and the store's own info mention lessons at Big Dude's Music City. If you're signing up a beginner (or restarting yourself), a quick call ahead answers the three things that matter: which instruments they teach, whether the schedule has openings at the time you actually need, and what a first lesson costs. There's no wrong first guitar — a good teacher will happily work with whatever you walk in with, and a shop that teaches usually keeps affordable starter instruments and rentals on hand for exactly this reason.
