From the reviews
Traded some gear to Peter for a really great Telecaster. He was really patient with me while I was there (I was indecisive) and he handed a bunch of cool guitars to me to give a shot, went over their specs and differences, and let me play them without any pressure.
Always stop here when visiting Troy. Their new location is really comfortable with an awesome selection of guitars. But their biggest asset- the staff. My son bought his Nash a while ago and I picked up a Roland Jazz Chorus Thursday. Love it! Good luck with the new digs. Will be back the next time we’re in town.
This is an amazing local gem that I trust with all my gear. Even when I had an anomalous problem after a setup, Peter was happy to help fix it, and the guitar plays even better now. I cannot recommend this crew enough! Knowledgeable, friendly, and honest through and through.
My second or third time at the shop. Peter and John were there today and were very welcoming and genuine. I had purchased an amp from the store previously, and through conversation, we discovered that it was John’s old amp.
Selling or trading gear at Collar City Guitars
Collar City Guitars comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
