Damon “Doc” Walker is a tremendously kind and talented luthier. I brought a very sentimental bass to him that had the dreaded “12th fret kink” (was a 40 year old bass) as well as a few other issues. The whole restoration process with Doc was an absolute pleasure.
I recently moved to Durham, and like any bass player, am always nervous to go to a new luthier. Damon (Dr. Bass) is amazing! He was kind and patient with my sometimes stupid questions. He went above and beyond to get me a few extra millimeters on my adjustable bridge. His shop itself is quite impressive.
My daughter’s cello needed some basic maintenance and restoration of the bridge. Had a recital in 5 days and Dr.Bass was recommended to me by all the music shops in the Raleigh-Durham area. Contacted them scheduled an appointment within hours and was able to drop it off . Three days later it was ready for pick up. Dr.
Dr. Bass is a true treasure. We came to rent a standing bass for my middle schooler after her teacher recommended Dr. Bass, and he gave her a wonderful orientation for the instrument. Prices are reasonable and straightforward. If your child plays one of the Giant Things With Strings, Dr. Bass is the place to go.
