I have purchased an excellent professional-level viola from Eugene Violin Shop (Zack Johnson), and am extremely happy with it. It is a small viola (which is what I was looking for), but has a strong, clear, rich tone that I love! It is very playable and I love this instrument.
Zack was very friendly and knowledgeable, and his instruments are both beautiful and well crafted. You can tell that he is well versed in his craft. There are violins, violas and cellos for sale in a wide range of prices, and some really exceptional instruments.
I have bought instruments and have had students buy instruments from this shop-- Zack is VERY easy to work with, and the instruments are excellent work! The viola I recently bought from him is lighter than most I've played yet still packs a powerful, rich tone.
Zack is very kind and very respectful. While in the process of moving his workshop he was still able to help me out getting my old violin setup again to be played. He helped me find the right products and gave me a fair price on labor and was over generously respectful of my time.
