What's on the wall
“They've got crazy amounts of inventory; CDs, records, and casettes as well as speaker stuff and some rare video games.”
“Huge selection of used vinyl with a good selection across a lot of genres.”
From the reviews
This place is quite excellent--the selection of records, clothes that only hipsters could love, and oddities is vast and will satisfy any indie kid's needs. Staff is chill and the environment is bright and clean. Doesn't smell as dusty as most record stores do, but still smells....vintage? Interpret how you will.
Great, throwback sort of record store. Large collection of used vinyl, CD, and merchandise. I spent an hour there and could have spent the whole afternoon. Many vintage records. Good prices and helpful staff. What more could you want?
My dream record store, years ago I went as a young kid looking for some records of new jams I was getting into. The owner let me know they'd been years out of print but looked at me and said "hold on a second.
Love this local institution. New, old, collectible, local, refurbished classic audio gear, classic video games, local art & t-shirts...everything you could want from a classic indie record shop. Lately I have been buying records with interesting cover art to frame & hang.
Selling or trading gear at Exile on Main Street
Exile on Main Street comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
