Warning long story. I drove from Orlando to buy my first violin. I had called and made arrangements 2 days prior of what I was interested in. When I arrived at 10 am (3 hrs to get there) they had a table set up with the instruments. They played each one since I’m a beginner and narrowed it down to 2.
My wife and I drove down from Minnesota to visit the Fiddlershop in person while shopping for a new violin. I had watched many YouTube videos produced by Fiddlershop, but felt I needed to see the instruments in person to make a selection. When we arrived for our appointment, we were met by Ryan and Joe.
I've bought a number of things from Fiddlershop over the last year or so. They're always helpful to answer questions about anything. But my most recent purchase is certainly worth mentioning... I was interested in a Glasser Carbon Fiber acoustic/electric violin for taking to Africa, so I got one sent for in-home trial.
We had an absolutely phenomenal experience with Fiddlershop music store! They went above and beyond to rush a beautiful cello to arrive in time for my daughter’s birthday, and we could not be happier. The instrument is gorgeous, excellent quality, and my daughter fell in love with it immediately.
Selling or trading gear at Fiddlershop
Fiddlershop comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
