Tim Gates is a craftsman with a passion for guitars that cares as much about your guitar as you do. I’m in Atlanta and could not find a luthier who would touch a Nippon Gakki Yamaha. I was told time and time again you could not do neck resets on old Nippon Gakki’s.
5 stars all the way! Phenomenal knowledge, professionalism, customer service, tools and attitude. You may need to call and make an appointment first but that’s not a big deal. Helped me out with a repair on my acousticsonic telecaster and he felt that he shouldn’t even charge me because he got it fixed fairly fast.
Tim recently installed a couple Anthem pickups in my Martin D42 & Larrivee JV09, as well as did some fret recrowning & neck correction, based on his recommendation. Glad he did so - they play so much better now! In short, he was professional, responsive, reasonably priced & I'm very happy with the work done.
Tim is a great, personable luthier. I have a challenging but fantastic vintage SG that's given me some grief. I tried my normal go-to luthiers, and they weren't even willing to take on the SG and help me look for solutions. Tim was absolutely up for the challenge and jumped right in.
