From the reviews
I was disappointed to hear that some had a negative experience at this store as it relates to the staff. They definitely know their stuff here and, just like any music store, it can seem as though they are being short when their knowledge is so superior. Grassroots has a great vinyl collection - both old and new stuff.
This is a small business, and you can tell as soon as you walk in the door. Chris carefully curates his store to be like no other. There’s an incredibly vast selection of records, his guitars are beautiful, his gear is top notch AND it’s all priced to sell!
Chris was so into it!! He really dove into taking interest in this lil piece of trash and got creative trying to help me find some odds and ends to make the strings functional!
This place is so lively that I could spend hours there. Personally, I collect compact discs but boy were there vinyl records. Also guitars which I semi cared about. As for the Cds, some of best finds were in the $1.00 bargain bin—bearing such classics as Fleetwood Mac Live 97 and Lady Gaga The Fame Monster.
Selling or trading gear at Grassroots Music Store
Grassroots Music Store comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
Lessons at Grassroots Music Store
Reviews and the store's own info mention lessons at Grassroots Music Store. If you're signing up a beginner (or restarting yourself), a quick call ahead answers the three things that matter: which instruments they teach, whether the schedule has openings at the time you actually need, and what a first lesson costs. There's no wrong first guitar — a good teacher will happily work with whatever you walk in with, and a shop that teaches usually keeps affordable starter instruments on hand for exactly this reason.
