Hi All, I bought a very nice 17" Eastman Jazz Elite from Lou here about 6 years ago. We discussed my action preference, and the tech set it up beautifully. It arrived at my house 700 miles away in Indiana a few days later, and I've played it almost daily since then.
I purchased a Gibson ES-175 from Guiitars ‘n Jazz for a very decent price over the phone from a couple of states away without visiting the shop. Owner Lou is honest, very easy to work with and he wanted to make sure I was happy my choice and with the purchase for all the right reasons.
Highly recommended if you're shopping for archtops. No one else in 60 miles of me has anything close to the selection of quality stuff. Knowledgeable, friendly staff, recognized that I was serious about what i was looking for, and helped me find and leave with the right guitar for me.
The store is an unusual mix of musical instruments, pharmacy and copy center (?!?), but they are the premiere dealer of Eastman guitars in NJ. Lou and Marc are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I was able to take my time and try as many guitars as I wanted and I got a very good deal, after some negotiation.
Selling or trading gear at Guitars 'n Jazz
Guitars 'n Jazz comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
