From the reviews
I stopped in Maxwell's last week for the first time. I was flabbergasted! This was a very pleasant surprise and experience. Super cool place. So much to see. The Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable on all aspects of music and instruments. A truly one stop shop for everything related to learning and playing music.
Awesome music store, right here in Jeffersonville, IN!!! Great experience for anyone that is beginner to pro musician. You can demo an e-kit, keyboards to acoustic, and electric guitars. Ask first be fore you touch. Staff there are really nice, courteous, and the customer service is through the roof, in an awesome way.
This place is awesome! I've been shopping at maxwell' since my teenage years and they always have great stock sitting around. The staff are friendly and let you demo any product you want. I'm a bass guitar enthusiast and I think they need more basses, but that's just me. Don't worry there's lots of guitars.
Fantastic music store! I purchased my daughters first ukulele here and she was just ecstatic. They worked with me on the price and I also picked up a nice case to go with it. The guys there were super friendly and helpful. They have a nice selection of guitars, drums, etc.
Selling or trading gear at Maxwell's House of Music
Maxwell's House of Music comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
Lessons at Maxwell's House of Music
Reviews and the store's own info mention lessons at Maxwell's House of Music. If you're signing up a beginner (or restarting yourself), a quick call ahead answers the three things that matter: which instruments they teach, whether the schedule has openings at the time you actually need, and what a first lesson costs. There's no wrong first guitar — a good teacher will happily work with whatever you walk in with, and a shop that teaches usually keeps affordable starter instruments on hand for exactly this reason.
