From the reviews
Metzler is the very best all round. For a number if years we have had the service of Wesley who is just outstanding. Also the owner Thomas Metzler is just wonderful along with his daughter who also supports the business - we have now purchased our 3rd Violin for our daughter and will continue to buy as our daughter…
I’ve only had a great experience with Metzler. I’m new to the violin world and felt very much welcomed in as a beginner. Great customer service and helpful advice for questions I wouldn’t even think to ask. From repairs to advice on which books to buy, they had me covered. Great local spot - I highly suggest it!
Our experience with Metzler Violin Shop could not have been better. We reside in Brooklyn, NY and all of our interactions were done by phone and we assessed violins for trial by mail. In the end we considered ten violins and each of the violins were of fine quality.
This is a wonderful violin shop. I am an adult cello student and brought in my Eastman VC100 - which I bought used - for a look over. Wesely looked the cello over and made suggestions. The fees were very affordable. I got the cello back a week later and there was a substantial difference in the performance.
Selling or trading gear at Metzler Violin Shop Inc.
Metzler Violin Shop Inc. comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
