What's on the wall
“I was referred here by both my school's music program and a couple of my flute friends who all said they're efficient, not expensive, and really good at instrument repair.”
“I'm so grateful MMI exists and I will be returning for every bassoon need, whether it's general maintenance, a lesson or reeds-I know they have my back and bell.”
“The focus is on reeded instruments, not as much for flute, brass or percussion.”
What players say again and again
“But most importantly, you get to work with a professional musician with the knowledge and experience to get you set up.”
“The staff were very friendly an willing to put up with my awe (and equally as ignorant) and answer the questions I had.”
From the reviews
I had the most wonderful experience at Midwest Musical Imports. I’m a senior citizen, retired music educator/administrator, and relatively new to Minnesota. When my granddaughter asked for help learning to play clarinet, I purchased an old, used instrument online (not from MMI).
Fabulous staff and customer service! I've been renting instruments from MMI for a few years now, and they always have the best quality options with fair prices. Also, I recently made the jump to purchase my own A clarinet, and Tori was incredibly helpful and kind throughout the process.
An amazing shop for anything double reed and beyond. Even if you're not in Minnesota their staff is friendly and helpful. I'm fortunate enough to be in Minnesota and have trusted them with my bassoon and business for some time. Double reed doesn't have to be double the price and they do an amazing job.
Every aspect of this place is high quality: the products, the space, the staff, the variety, and the atmosphere are all top-notch in my book. The focus is on reeded instruments, not as much for flute, brass or percussion.
Selling or trading gear at Midwest Musical Imports
Midwest Musical Imports comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
