What's on the wall

“Murphy's has an excellent selection of Martin guitars and has really great prices.”
What players say again and again
“I would highly recommend their repair services to anyone. It may not be the fastest but Ray is an artist who does the highest quality work of anyone in Utah.”
“The workers are super knowledgeable and willing to talk about guitars and effects in a way you won’t get at a big box center of guitars.”
“Friendly helpful staff added to my positive experience there and I will likely go out of my way (I have GC near me) to purchase strings and supplies there in the future.”

From the reviews
Mason was very knowledgeable and opened my eyes to my possibilities! I came 15 minutes before closing and he helped me pick out my amp and told me all about pedal and other equipment. He stayed 35 minutes after closing which was above and beyond. So awesome.
This shop is awesome! Friendly and super helpful staff. They're laid back, but still professional. Unlike some guitar shops, they won't be condescending and won't be pushy. They will listen to you well and give great advice if you want to pick their brain about something.
These guys are OOZING with integrity (and friendliness). I dropped my Taylor off for a setup and fret replacements on the first three or so frets. I was ready to drop $500-$600 and leave it there for 3-4 weeks.
These guys are great. When it comes to getting work done on your guitar, this is definitely the place to go. They did an excellent job resetting up my Stratocaster after I had completely taken it apart to refinish it. It plays wonderfully after their setup.
Selling or trading gear at Murphy's Guitars
Murphy's Guitars comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
Lessons at Murphy's Guitars
Reviews and the store's own info mention lessons at Murphy's Guitars. If you're signing up a beginner (or restarting yourself), a quick call ahead answers the three things that matter: which instruments they teach, whether the schedule has openings at the time you actually need, and what a first lesson costs. There's no wrong first guitar — a good teacher will happily work with whatever you walk in with, and a shop that teaches usually keeps affordable starter instruments and rentals on hand for exactly this reason.
