From the reviews
My goal was to trade in a couple guitars and a few misc. items that I wasn't using for quality acoustic guitar that I could take to jams in the winter cold without being too fussy about it.
I brought in a Yamaha FG 340 I found by the garage cans in Oakdale. The store employee adjusted the string keys, replaced the old strings with a new set on strings, and cleaned up the wood. It was produced in Taiwan around 1975, has to tone wood on the back, and valued around $350.00. The total cost of repairs was $35.
The new management, Jeff & Jim, are very knowledgeable and eager to answer any of your questions. John, the guitar tech is very knowledgeable as well. He even fixed my vintage Orfeus P bass with some new pots, plug & fret level & dress. And Raj is the handy horn guy.
I took in my low end acoustic guitar I've carried around with me for about 8 yrs now. I hardly played it, it never held a tune for long and I just didn't know any better on what it needed. I took it into a Guitar Center about 8 yrs ago in California and they put wire strings on it when it is a nylon string guitar.
Selling or trading gear at Music Go Round Stillwater
Music Go Round Stillwater comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
