Brands they deal

What players say again and again
“And are very straightforward and will honestly to let you know if repairs are worth it or not! Great guys to get to know !”
“Not only is Mike a great guy, but his knowledge and expertise on working on guitars is second to none.”
“They have both done work on my guitars over the years and do great work for a very reasonable price.”
From the reviews
Brought in a Fender Tele to Mike and Jerry to work on. My experience was nothing short of perfection. This guitar desperately needed fret work and a new nut. I wanted to do a full refret but Jerry noticed some of the higher frets had some life still in them so we went ahead and did a partial refret.
It's real simple. If you live in the Chicagoland area and you don't know how great Players is, you are blowing it. You couldn't bring your guitar or bass anywhere better. Not only is Mike a great guy, but his knowledge and expertise on working on guitars is second to none. Jerry is also excellent.
I stopped in to get my guitar checked out and Mike’s customer service was awesome. He treated me like an old friend even though we just met. He knows guitars, and how to set-up and repair them. He’s honest and charges fair prices. I take all of my guitars to Mike and I’m glad I found his shop.
This is one of the best guitar/music shops around. The guitar tech has years of experience and is one of the only people I trust to work on my instruments. They also have a lot of great vintage/use gear for sale. I always see something cool when I pay them a visit.
Selling or trading gear at Players Guitars
Players Guitars comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
Lessons at Players Guitars
Reviews and the store's own info mention lessons at Players Guitars. If you're signing up a beginner (or restarting yourself), a quick call ahead answers the three things that matter: which instruments they teach, whether the schedule has openings at the time you actually need, and what a first lesson costs. There's no wrong first guitar — a good teacher will happily work with whatever you walk in with, and a shop that teaches usually keeps affordable starter instruments on hand for exactly this reason.
