What's on the wall
“Over time, I bought a replacement vintage saxophone from him on his very sound advice (saved me money AND directed me to a much better quality instrument).”
“Despite living in Rio de Janeiro, I had the opportunity to visit Roberto's Winds in New York a few times to buy in the store and I'm used to buying its reeds online.”
“I don’t know much about how repairs work or tuneups, but I never feel taken advantage of and my husband is always happy with the work done.”
“Roberto and his shop have worked on my saxophones for 14 years now, and I cannot think of a better place for anything from simple adjustments to full overhauls.”
What players say again and again
“Despite having no shortage of work to do, the craftsmen at Roberto’s Winds spent hours with me dialing in the setup on my new sax.”
“To top off an amazing experience, they charged an extremely fair price.”
“There is such a wealth of experience that Roberto, Nick and their gang of experts are willing to share when I’ve got questions on gear whether big or small.”
From the reviews
I met Roberto Romeo when he started working for Saul Fromkin in 1983. I’d been taking my horn to Saul for several years already after I’d gotten a tip via Sam Rivers that this was the man to go to. It seems that Sonny Rollins & many others have felt the same.
When I’m in NYC, I always stop by Roberto’s Winds. I love the friendly atmosphere and music banter I crave. There is such a wealth of experience that Roberto, Nick and their gang of experts are willing to share when I’ve got questions on gear whether big or small. I am totally hooked on Roberto’s own line of reeds.
As an instrument collector and player I'm always going to Roberto's winds. Whether it's for repair or essentials this place is a must. I get great sales help without the pressure of other places. I prefer this location better than the last one because it has an elevator.
Nicky is a lifesaver!!! We were traveling from the west coast for a Jazz Festival and the airline damaged a bari sax that would not play open. We need a repair on a Monday morning with no notice to be able to play in a festival on Tuesday in Long Island.
Lessons at Roberto's Winds Inc.
Reviews and the store's own info mention lessons at Roberto's Winds Inc.. If you're signing up a beginner (or restarting yourself), a quick call ahead answers the three things that matter: which instruments they teach, whether the schedule has openings at the time you actually need, and what a first lesson costs. There's no wrong first guitar — a good teacher will happily work with whatever you walk in with, and a shop that teaches usually keeps affordable starter instruments on hand for exactly this reason.
