From the reviews
Cannot find a better owner than Kim Shomaker! Shomaker Guitars is the only place I go for my guitar tech needs. Kim has seen it all and will be able to get you the sound you've been looking for on guitar! Amazing stock of guitars, reasonably priced. This is a shop I recommend to any guitarist out there.
Nice smallish shop that has been in Burlington for years and has a good reputation. I like the shop and the owner. If I'm looking for a new or used guitar I would definitely stop by there.
I’ve been a customer at Shomakers for the past 18 years. Kim always has a great selection from beginner guitars to rare collector items. I’ve got more guitars than I count from him! This is the only place in Burlington for setup & repairs with quick turnaround time.
I brought in my Gibson Slash Les Paul for a pickup swap and a full setup. When I picked it up it played better than ever, and got to enjoy some good conversation while my son had a guitar lesson. Absolutely will be bringing any guitar I need work on here from now on!
Selling or trading gear at Shomaker Guitar
Shomaker Guitar comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
Lessons at Shomaker Guitar
Reviews and the store's own info mention lessons at Shomaker Guitar. If you're signing up a beginner (or restarting yourself), a quick call ahead answers the three things that matter: which instruments they teach, whether the schedule has openings at the time you actually need, and what a first lesson costs. There's no wrong first guitar — a good teacher will happily work with whatever you walk in with, and a shop that teaches usually keeps affordable starter instruments on hand for exactly this reason.
