From the reviews

My husband and I have been considering a turntable for our a collection of records we inherited, but weren't familiar with all the details about getting the right set up or where to begin honestly. Elizabeth at Speaking Volumes made the world less intimidating and was so helpful!!!

Wonderful selection of used and local records, huge jazz section, and an awesome assortment of vintage, tested and/or refurbished equipment. Also does repairs, which is understandably pricey because it’s a specialized art.

Wonderful store with huge selection vinyl records. 60's music, favorite opera vocalists I couldn't find anywhere else, great people. Also audio equipment repair and sales.Excellent in every way.

★★★★★ — Jeffrey, Jan 2022

Great record store with just about any record one could want. On my first visit I came by bike and didn't think I could safely bring the vinyls home but I looked at T. Rex, Neil Young, Van Morrison, the Police, the Moody Blues, the Pretenders, Roxy Music and many more.

Selling or trading gear at Speaking Volumes Records

Speaking Volumes Records comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
