Ever since my Martin D28 from the 1970s suffered a massive breakdown (string tension pulled the neck down into the body!) it had been hanging on the wall looking uglier and uglier. I had never really liked the guitar - it had had a muffled, homogenized sound quality that made it boring and unsatisfying to play.
Chuck is a highly skilled luthier, and a great guy. I brought him a much-loved 1953 Martin archtop mandolin, which had belonged to my late father.
