From the reviews
Best record store in the midwest? I made a point to stop here on my way back to Chicago from the driftless region in WI and I'm so glad I did. Where other shops fall short, Toad Hall excels in flying colors. Deep selection, fair pricing, stocking refurbished stereo equipment, helpful and courteous owner and staff.
Spent time on first floor today. Circulating staff very pleasant and helpful. Glad we are near enough to visit more often! Great place to find LPs (or tapes or cds that you are missing, as well as books or magazines yoou want to get your hands on. There are speakers and other stereo parts to check out, too.
Great nook in the wall! For stereo equipment! Dvds!blu rays! Cassettes! Vinyl! Great selections and awesome staff! Will be going back for more dvds and blu rays! Again Great staff and hospitality! Epic selections! And out of this world awesome pricing! A must have and must go if your in rockford! Let's gooo!
The place is amazing. The staff is cool. So much to look through. Endless hours of digging through stuff just waiting to be found. I went there for the first time about two weeks ago. I’ve been there 5 times already, lol. I’m searching for 90-2000s house music on vinyl.
Selling or trading gear at Toad Hall Books and Records
Toad Hall Books and Records comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
