From the reviews
Super knowledgeable and friendly staff. I can't say I know a lot about vinyl but everyone I spoke to was willing to answer questions and not condescending like some experts can be. Jonathan put together a great starter stereo system for me and I'm loving the sound. It also looks practically new.
Awesome experience at this place. I came in hoping to walk out with a turntable set up, and Jonathan made that happen for me. He asked how much I'd like to spend and then curated a set-up suited to my liking & budget. Brendan was great with pointing us to records.
This place is dope. In a world of each and every piece of vinyl being priced according to the internet, this place doesn't do that. Staff and ownership is super knowledgeable and friendly and there seems to be many regulars of the shop (myself included).
Village Vinyl will have the records you want from the get-go. A central destination Brookline, MA. Right in the heart of shopping, Japanese groceries (Maruichi), good food, books, and good desserts. If you're from out of town and need a place to go record shopping, this is it.
Selling or trading gear at Village Vinyl & Hi Fi
Village Vinyl & Hi Fi comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
