From the reviews
One of the best musical instruments stores I've come across. They've everything you can ask for or ever need for any instruments you might play or fancy playing. If you are lucky, you might just get a good deal. Their rent to own program is what I liked best.
Please come to this store before you purchase from an online-only retailer. The kindest, most patient and helpful people work here; from the gentleman who looked for a specific piece of sheet music for me, to the one who rang me up patiently even though I kept grabbing more and more items, to the one who gave me an…
Had to come in in person to pick up my sons clarinet due to the website running my credit score several times unsuccessfully (causing a couple dings). Otherwise, the staff was very friendly and understanding. The rental process took all of 10 minutes and I walked out with the instrument.
I went for a instrument try out for my daughter.. The staff was very respectful and helpful. One of staf member who helped my daughter to try out the instruments did that well. He taught how to play the flute and saxophone like a teacher. He answered all the questions we had and he was very friendly to my daughter too.
Selling or trading gear at Volkwein's Music
Volkwein's Music comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
