What's on the wall
“Anyone from novice to more serious collector could likely find something they can't leave with.”
“Too easy to miss as the entrance is not on the main street but tucked away for those that find it is a small but mighty assortment of new and used vinyl.”
What players say again and again
“Pulled more than a couple good deals out of there.”
From the reviews
I really enjoy if not love coming to this shop, especially when there's room enough to browse and chat with the shop staff. Chris is my fave. He's quiet but doesn't mind chatting about music and the Twin Cities scene with a chatty chick like myself.
Hidden gem of a record shop! Too easy to miss as the entrance is not on the main street but tucked away for those that find it is a small but mighty assortment of new and used vinyl. Don't be fooled though, just because it's a smaller collection it's chocked full of popular and more esoteric finds.
Small shop is chock full of vinyl LPs, 45s, some CDS, collectibles. Impressive historical, but also a strong display of contemporaries. A great suburban one-stop. Drew and the guys are friendly conversationalists, helpful about special orders or trade secrets. I wish I lived closer but I’ll enjoy going when I can.
A friend of mine recently introduced me to this little shop and I just adore it! I've been wanting a record player for a while now and received one from Amazon as a birthday gift. I was very disappointed with the sound quality of that one. So I returned it and went on the hunt for a higher-quality used one instead...
Selling or trading gear at White Bear Lake Records
White Bear Lake Records comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
