Updating review, fall of 2020- Dave's is a terrific, customer oriented store with great knowledge and expertise and an unmatched selection of products. I had a wonderful experience at Dave's. I brought in my old guitar, asking about a possible repair. Leah and the other staff were patient and knowledgeable in explaining why a repair would not be the best option, but also did not pressure me to buy a replacement, understanding that I needed more time to consider…
TONS of guitars at most every pri e point! Clean beautiful place. Fantastic accociate helped me. No pressure, and didn't make me feel foolish with my questions. I WILL buy a guitar from this shop when I figure out what will work best for me. BEST experience I've ever had in a music store. Nicest shop I've ever seen.
This is the finest selection of guitars you'll find in the Madison area, period. Many high end models, of various brands. All may be played and tested. Huge acoustic room. Very nice staff, knowledgeable. Just bought a Fender vintage series instrument there yesterday, which was priced lower than most online retailers.
Selling or trading gear at Dave's Guitar Shop
Dave's Guitar Shop comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
