From the reviews
A guitar I purchased (from another seller on Reverb) arrived to me in not so great condition. I knew I couldn’t set it up myself so I gave George a call. He got me in right away. He got the guitar set up quickly but discovered some electrical damage while doing so.
George did a great job with some cigar box ideas that I had recently. He not only made me a bass cigar box, but the most beautiful sounding CB guitar that rings out with long sustain. I couldn't have asked for anything more. Thanks George!
I haven't brought a guitar in yet but been talking on the phone about several setups. In Monona or Madison I try to stay as local as possible with any business but when it comes to music live shows and local bands are the ticket so why not a local luthier.
George helped me finish a long overdue set of modifications on one of my guitars. He was a pleasure to work with, did a fantastic job, and contacted me regularly about any unexpected alterations that were needed (due to being unfinished, it needed many unexpected adjustments!
Selling or trading gear at Mad-Rockin' Guitars
Mad-Rockin' Guitars comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
Lessons at Mad-Rockin' Guitars
Reviews and the store's own info mention lessons at Mad-Rockin' Guitars. If you're signing up a beginner (or restarting yourself), a quick call ahead answers the three things that matter: which instruments they teach, whether the schedule has openings at the time you actually need, and what a first lesson costs. There's no wrong first guitar — a good teacher will happily work with whatever you walk in with, and a shop that teaches usually keeps affordable starter instruments on hand for exactly this reason.
