From the reviews

Went to Finlay + Gage to have my cello repaired after it took a bad fall last year. Béla did an amazing job caring for my instrument. I went home and played it as soon as I got in and it sounded good as new.

★★★★★ — Isabella, Apr 2023

Top quality craftsmanship and repairs for stringed instruments. Best around! Mike made me a new bridge that is just amazing and my bass sounds better than ever!

★★★★★ — Nathan, Jan 2018

Stepped in looking for a pickup to take home to Florida and use the next day. I've never installed a pickup or even removed the strings on my bass yet, but David not only took the time to explain each pickup type they sold, but also showed me how to install all three.

★★★★★ — Cyrus, Feb 2018

The first time I visited David Gage’s was about a year ago. I consulted with one of their Sales Directors. Sam diligently walked me through a very fascinating array of different basses.

Selling or trading gear at Finlay + Gage Musical Instruments NYC

Finlay + Gage Musical Instruments NYC comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
