What's on the wall
“They spent quality time going over some options and how they would repair The crack on the back of my acoustic guitar.”
“I brought my 25 year old Tele' in cause I thought I had ruined the truss rod nut.”
“I’ve taken all of my guitars/basses to Indie String Theory, and they never disappoint!”
“I took my tube amp in for a retube/bias as well as replacing one of the potentiometers on the front panel.”
“They don't charge you more than fair value for the repair, are honest and upfront with the price/timeline, and seem genuinely happy to do their work.”
Brands they deal
“I took my Gibson Flying V in to get refretted and a bunch of other stuff done.”
What players say again and again
“On tour and had a guitar that needed some repairs. Kevin squeezed me in and did an amazing job getting my guitar back and as good as new.”
“I would recommend these guys if you’re in or around the Indy area, super easy to work with, and not to mention knowledgeable on anything with strings.”
“Would absolutely recommend anyone to go there for repair services - also the shop is really cool and they have good prices on some used gear and some custom guitars.”
From the reviews
I don't normally leave reviews, but Indy String Theory is worthy of it. The full review is included below, but in short, taking your instrument here is like having a good friend who happens to work on guitars.
This place came highly recommended by my supervisor! I had just recently acquired my dream guitar and needed to have better electronics installed. I was told two weeks or so for the work to be completed and it was done in less time than that. The pickup sounds amazing! The setup is phenomenal.
I love this shop and everyone in it. The work is second to none (they have maintained or repaired every guitar I own in one capacity or another). Better yet, the owners and employees are so kind and patient. I look forward to a continued future with this shop! They are also very humble, and did I mention nice?
This is what a music shop should be. Been a a few times selling gear and purchasing. Always a pleasure to deal with. Most recent visit was for a guitar setup. Excellent work was done and I cannot thank them enough. Playing the guitar constantly now. Reasonable price and turnaround time.
Selling or trading gear at Indy String Theory LLC
Indy String Theory LLC comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
Lessons at Indy String Theory LLC
Reviews and the store's own info mention lessons at Indy String Theory LLC. If you're signing up a beginner (or restarting yourself), a quick call ahead answers the three things that matter: which instruments they teach, whether the schedule has openings at the time you actually need, and what a first lesson costs. There's no wrong first guitar — a good teacher will happily work with whatever you walk in with, and a shop that teaches usually keeps affordable starter instruments on hand for exactly this reason.
