From the reviews
My Dad and I were in Richmond for a concert and stumbled upon this shop. The staff was incredibly kind and knowledgeable. Walked away with this Gibson Firebrand “The Paul”. They had a wide variety of great instruments and were (in my opinion) dead on with their pricing.
I’ve been shopping with Metro sound for over 25 years. The owner and his employees are friendly and knowledgeable. They are patient in explaining things to me and my son and eager to help us try out equipment. I just picked up a guitar I’ve had for years which they set up for me.
I brought my son’s saxophone here for repair over the holidays. I appreciated that the store had a specialist who was able to provide the repair quickly and for a reasonable price. They also had rentals available so my son was able to continue practicing for an important audition in the meantime.
We were able to rent a baritone Sax through Metro Sound. They were very helpful in securing. Not many places carry Bari saxes to lease and they were able to secure one for him. Always had great customer service. There were times the instrument needed a tune up and they always had a loaner available.
Selling or trading gear at Metro Sound and Music Co.
Metro Sound and Music Co. comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
