From the reviews
Awesome spot, and one that gets overlooked I'm afraid. A blessing to have this is the Chicago area. A relatively small space, but jam packed with a world class selection of new, vintage, and entry level gear priced competitively.
I don't live in Chicagoland, but was here visiting some relatives and decided to check out some local drum shops. I was really impressed with Mike's... had a great selection of drums/cymbals/sticks/other gear, and Mike was really nice and helpful in picking stuff out.
The owner and staff are extremely knowledgeable, personable and helpful. Ron helped me get "that sound" back with my snare drum and Mike help me tweak a DW double pedal that I didn't even buy there. You won't find this kind of service at a corporate-owned music store.
This place is great it harkens back to the days when Chicago had so many awesome drum shops. The place is a hidden gem and the staff has a sincere enthusiam. I will definitely shop there again, and will recommend to other drummers. Great job to Mike and Mike your hardwork will repay you
Lessons at Mike's Drum Shop
Reviews and the store's own info mention lessons at Mike's Drum Shop. If you're signing up a beginner (or restarting yourself), a quick call ahead answers the three things that matter: which instruments they teach, whether the schedule has openings at the time you actually need, and what a first lesson costs. There's no wrong first guitar — a good teacher will happily work with whatever you walk in with, and a shop that teaches usually keeps affordable starter instruments and rentals on hand for exactly this reason.
