From the reviews
I've been a collector around the Twin Cities for 8 years now - and have hit nearly every record store in the metro area. After having gone to Mill City Sound, I can confidently say this is the BEST record store I've been to in Minnesota. Excellent selection. Great prices. Beautiful store. Kind staff.
I visited Mill City on Saturday. What a nice classy record store. Their used section is huge and every used record I looked at was in fantastic condition. Prices were very reasonable! Ranged from, $6 to less than $20 on average for used. Staff was very helpful and it looks like they clean every record they sell.
Always a joy to shop here. The selection is insane and them having two floors mean you might want to clear at least a couple of hours to spend time digging. Probably the best selection of 45s and 12" singles in the Twin Cities. It's just about impossible to leave empty handed. The staff all seem super cool too.
Mill City Sound is an unbelievable record store. They have tons of vinyl and cds. The staff is wonderful and very knowledgeable. The basement has $1 lps and country and jazz. They also have turntables and accessories. They also help with any turntable. Great place.
Selling or trading gear at Mill City Sound
Mill City Sound comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
