From the reviews
I have been dealing with Mountain Pawn for years and they are simply the best I've ever seen. Their owner and managers have always treated me with respect and courtesy. Before I found "Mountain Man" I really didn't like to shop at pawn shops.
If you are not a customer of theirs, you should become their customer. They have friendly, knowledgeable staff and are always to work with you on prices. I've even gone in there and asked them if they would match a sale price from another pawn shop and they have. I recommend this business to everyone.
I have had some very good deals here. Staff is always helpful even when I thought I had some good inherited jewelry, the staff was very nice to let me down gently. They could see my disappointed reaction of my very precious (because it was my mom’s, who had just passed away), heirlooms.
I lived in the same neighborhood as Mountain Man until '16, my sister lived two blocks away. I never shopped there until long after I moved uptown. I'm a thrift store shopper by bargain type but a friend from Missoula was in town and she loves pawn shopping.
Selling or trading gear at Mountain Man Trading Post Pawn
Mountain Man Trading Post Pawn comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
