From the reviews
This place was awesome. Classic guitars and drums for a cheap price. Awesome vintage look to boot as well. One of the employees was nice enough to play us a little song on the ukulele as well. Great experience and Costumer Service as well. Happy 50 years.
Rockin’ Robin is a staple of the Houston music scene, I can’t think of how many times I’ve walked in to see what kind of project guitar I can purchase. Now, I’d rather the prices were a little bit more down to earth, but it can be argued either way from each standpoint.
My daughter wanted to learn how to play electric guitar. In a week's time we had visited 3 different Guitar Centers and 2 smaller local shops. The experience wasn't that great at any of them - reps were either too busy to help or just gave simple yes/no answers. But at Rockin Robin we were helped by Phil!
Rockin Robin hands down has the absolute best Guitar Tech / Luthier this side of the south. I won't mention names here... I purchased this 1959 reissue strat, and out of the box it played and sounded like trash. I took it to a Tech out in the heights area, paid my dues, and got home, and holy crap it played better...
Lessons at Rockin' Robin
Reviews and the store's own info mention lessons at Rockin' Robin. If you're signing up a beginner (or restarting yourself), a quick call ahead answers the three things that matter: which instruments they teach, whether the schedule has openings at the time you actually need, and what a first lesson costs. There's no wrong first guitar — a good teacher will happily work with whatever you walk in with, and a shop that teaches usually keeps affordable starter instruments on hand for exactly this reason.
