From the reviews
My experience at TRG was great because of the people. I'm not an experienced guitar player; I'm the guy who somewhat dreads playing a guitar at all in a music store in front of people.
There's nothing worse than walking into a guitar shop and getting "vibed out" by the employees because they look you up and down and decide you aren't worth their time. Thunder Road is not that guitar shop.
I've been following Thunder Road Guitars on Instagram for a few years now and have been meaning to check out the store in person just as long. Today, everything lined up for me to do do and I'm stoked to have jumped on the chance!
Great neighborhood guitar shop. They restrung my nylon string guitar with strings that had balls on the ends of them. Those broke about two weeks later. I know strings break, but strings that are tied (without a ball) have a little more wiggle room/flexibility.
Selling or trading gear at Thunder Road Guitars PDX
Thunder Road Guitars PDX comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
