From the reviews
This is the best repair shop in the midwest, hands down. I have toured and lived in many states and was always looking for a shop to fix my guitar or get the intonation right after traveling and was always disappointed. The owner at top shelf is some kind of guitar Jesus.
Make no mistake, I love my guitars. Unfortunately I’ve had some really bad experiences with guitar techs/luthiers. So dealing with Top Shelf was well, top shelf. Every repair I’ve trusted them with has been finished on time, reasonably priced and of exceptional quality.
Marshall is really knowledgeable and was great helping me figure out what was needed, since I know nothing about guitars.. He was very helpful getting our Peavey guitar back in working order again so my daughter can learn to play it.
Aw, Man, I am not done with Top Shelf Guitars. The bridge pickup in my 66 tele went out in like 1993. It wasn’t until like a year ago that I sought out professional help, Jeff got my attention real fast with his knowledge of telecaster and observation of detail (as in decals, etc.
Selling or trading gear at Top Shelf Guitar Shop
Top Shelf Guitar Shop comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
