From the reviews
Among the best in the business. The Weisshaars are highly skilled luthiers who operate with great integrity. They've been around for a long time and provide the best service and instruments for professionals and amateurs alike.
Ten years ago I bought a new violin because I liked the rich tone and ease of play. Over the years and many "adjustments" later, the tone was weak and the sound was harsh. While searching for a new repair shop, I discovered Weisshaar's and decided to give them a try. Am I ever glad I did.
I recently had my sound post dislodged in my cello and panicked since I had to play for a wedding gig the next day. Thankfully I called Dan and he was kind enough to let me bring my cello in for an emergency appointment (on a Saturday too!).
Every interaction I've had with this shop has been superb. They put me in touch with a violin teacher for myself and my daughter that we both love, have rented me a violin, and have sold me my daughter's violin.
Selling or trading gear at Weisshaar M and R & Son Violin Shop
Weisshaar M and R & Son Violin Shop comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
