From the reviews
I recently had a double bass repaired by West Music and the experience was great start to finish. I was searching all over Iowa for a luthier who could repair the instrument (which was pretty beat up) and was told over and over by other stores that they don’t fix anything besides smaller string instruments.
I'm a piano teacher and visit the store often. I appreciate that they keep a great selection of Piano Adventures Books on hand. The staff is always friendly and helpful. They order all sorts of books for me and call me when my order is ready for pick up.
Another great trip to West Music. Got my wife the guitar she loved the most. With the help of Jake and John. They answered any question we had. No ask was to big. I believe they went above and beyond their customer service duties and West Music has customers for life. Thank you for such a great experience.
Just purchased an acoustic guitar for my 15 year old daughter's birthday. I had no idea what I was looking for. John, an associate their help me pick out a guitar. And was super helpful and made it a very pleasant purchasing experience. So thankful to have a music store like this right in Cedar falls.
Selling or trading gear at West Music Cedar Falls
West Music Cedar Falls comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
Lessons at West Music Cedar Falls
Reviews and the store's own info mention lessons at West Music Cedar Falls. If you're signing up a beginner (or restarting yourself), a quick call ahead answers the three things that matter: which instruments they teach, whether the schedule has openings at the time you actually need, and what a first lesson costs. There's no wrong first guitar — a good teacher will happily work with whatever you walk in with, and a shop that teaches usually keeps affordable starter instruments and rentals on hand for exactly this reason.
