The 25 Best Cities in America for Guitar Players (2026)

Not the most stores — the best being-a-player math. We scored every US city of 50,000+ with at least 3 guitar stores on two things that actually matter when you live there: how many stores you have per 100k residents, and how good those stores are (median Google rating across the city's shops). Multiply the two and you get this list. Updated 2026-07-15.

The ranking

Marietta, Georgia is the best city in America to be a guitar player — 11 stores for 63k people (17.4 per 100k) with a median rating of 4.7★, edging out Missoula, Montana (16.6 per 100k at 4.9★). Notice what's missing: the megacities. Density per resident is a mid-size-town game, and quality travels with it — every city on this list beats most major metros on both dials. 15 states place at least one city.

Methodology: store counts and Google ratings from our continuously maintained national directory (8,315 guitar & musical instrument stores, 1,374,173 player reviews; recording studios, DJ services, and lesson-only studios excluded). Eligibility: city population ≥ 50,000 (US Census 2024 estimates) and ≥ 3 stores. Score = (stores ÷ population × 100,000) × median Google rating of the city's stores. Cities are rolled up by the city name stores list on their address, so suburbs score separately from their metro anchor. More lenses: America's guitar capitals (raw counts and per-capita), the state stats hub, and the best-rated stores by state.
