From the reviews
My son and I went there last week. My son asked to play some guitars. The gentleman made us feel at ease. He played quite a few guitars the man pulled in our price range. We then left, ate some lunch, and talked. We decided to go back and buy the guitar he needed. I paid a fair price.
Amazing little guitar store with a helpful and knowledgeable staff. We were able to play on different acoustics for quite a while, and the sales woman was incredibly helpful. They are a quality establishment, and if we ever return to the area, we will decidedly be back!
I came in looking for an electric guitar setup earlier this week. I had done prior research and was therefore able to articulate clearly what I was looking for, though I hadn't yet decided on the exact model(s). The staff were polite and let me try out several instrument + amp combinations, both used and new.
Great service! On Saturday June 25th, I was the DJ for a wedding & reception at The Maine of Williamsburg. I realized that I didn't bring my microphone stand, & at 4:50pm, I called Authentic Guitars to see if they had one available for purchase.
Selling or trading gear at Authentic Guitars Inc.
Authentic Guitars Inc. comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
Lessons at Authentic Guitars Inc.
Reviews and the store's own info mention lessons at Authentic Guitars Inc.. If you're signing up a beginner (or restarting yourself), a quick call ahead answers the three things that matter: which instruments they teach, whether the schedule has openings at the time you actually need, and what a first lesson costs. There's no wrong first guitar — a good teacher will happily work with whatever you walk in with, and a shop that teaches usually keeps affordable starter instruments on hand for exactly this reason.
