Today was our second visit to C & L Exchange and, like our first visit, this was a pleasant experience. My wife and I like to visit local resale shops and pawn shops in the hopes of finding a guitar, bass or amp that we like.
C & L Exchange is the most friendly pawn shop you have ever walked into. Most pawn shops greet you like the bouncer at a strip bar - gruff and suspicious. But C & L welcomes you in to look around. Lots of tools and jewelry. Medium size selection of musical instruments, but they all were in really good condition.
Found a guitar that was advertised on FB Marketplace. I asked if it was still available. I received a reply within a few minutes that it was. Picked it up later that day. Everyone in the store was friendly and accommodating while I was able to tune & demo the guitar in store. Plus gave me a great price on it!
The people at C&L Exchange are really friendly. I found a guitar from them that they had advertised on letgo. I was so pleased with the item. The guitar was in excellent condition it looked brand new. I was so happy with my experience I ended up buying the amplifier from them also.
Selling or trading gear at C & L Exchange
C & L Exchange comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
