From the reviews
The local granddaddy of all media stores, the Electric Fetus has weathered many trends and many eras. With the revival of interest in vinyl records, it is again having another renaissance.
I have been to Electric Fetus several times now and it’s a great local spot. They have a massive selection of music - mainly vinyls with a lot of CDs as well. They always have new stuff coming in from a wide variety of genres - there is undoubtedly something for everyone here.
I'm not even a huge vinyl collector and still spent way longer here than expected. Lots of records, random finds, local music, and people browsing without anyone bothering them. Staff seemed genuinely interested in helping instead of trying to sell something. Busy but never felt crowded.
My favorite independent record store in Minneapolis. Friendly staff, great selection of used and new records. They have a healthy selection of signed vinyl and a great gift store, including cool clothes and cards.
Selling or trading gear at Electric Fetus
Electric Fetus comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
