From the reviews
This is a really great music store. In all of my visits there, staff have been friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Most recently, I went in looking for small tube amp--a Fender Vibro Champ--and, although they didn't have one in stock, the staffperson suggested I try out a mid-60's Danelectro DM-10.
Friendly and helpful staff. They have a great selection of used guitars in excellent condition and at reasonable prices. Easy place to trade gear and guitars with.
I've been to Mill River's new location a couple of times, the first to try out and purchase an amplifier and the second to get a setup on my Precision bass. Both my visits have been extremely pleasant, and I'm completely satisfied with my purchase and service.
I went in with some decent but antiquated used gear to sell. The shop is great, lots of instruments in a wide range of price points, all set up nicely and playable off the wall. Some really phenomenally beautiful and valuable guitars sitting next to workhorses.
Selling or trading gear at Mill River Music and Guitars
Mill River Music and Guitars comes up for buying and trading used gear — confirmed on their own site. Two things make the trip go better. First, bring the whole package: the case or gig bag, the original tremolo arm or bridge parts, the paperwork if you have it — a complete rig is worth real money more than a bare instrument, and it saves the back-and-forth of "can you bring the case in?" Second, know that trade credit almost always beats the cash offer, usually by a healthy margin — if you're upgrading anyway, price your old gear as a trade against the new one before you take cash. Either way, expect the offer to be below what the gear sells for on the wall; the gap is the store's margin for setup, warranty, and sitting on it until the right buyer walks in.
