If you’re reading this find a way to try a Moddjobbs amp, but just a warning; you may not want to play your own amp anymore! Seriously they sound great, are super responsive and alive feeling, made by hand right here in the Berkshires USA.
Recently, my beloved H.H. Scott 299D integrated amplifier from 1967 started shorting in the rectifier tube and blowing fuses. I was panicked. This little amp and a pair of Klipsch Heresy IIIs packs more audio nirvana per cubic inch than systems hundreds if not thousands of times more expensive.
There is no question that Nick is the best repair guy in this area. I can handle most basic repairs, but Nick is next level in his knowledge and expertise of this arena.
I bought a used 5W Champ amp clone and experienced some electrical smoke when I innocently changed out the preamp tube; normally a simple and uneventful task. I google searched for “tube amp repair” and found ModdJobbs. Nick took a look over the amp, gave me a verbal assessment, and I left it in his care.
